Early Access: MineXHost is live and still being built. Expect maintenance and occasional outages. Check live status

Where We Run

Where your server physically runs, how players reach it, and what can go wrong. We would rather you read the downsides here than find them later.

The short version

  • Your server runs on hardware we own, in our home in Pennsylvania, USA.
  • Players connect through a server we rent from OVH in Beauharnois, Quebec, Canada, which then passes the traffic to our site over an encrypted tunnel.
  • All game servers run at one site. We don't have a second location yet.
  • We are a new host in Early Access. Expect maintenance and occasional outages.

The machines

Your Minecraft server runs on machines we bought and own. We don't rent them from a cloud provider or resell someone else's servers. They sit in our home in Pennsylvania.

Your world's files and its backups are kept on a separate storage server (a TrueNAS box) at the same site, not on the machine that runs your game. For the processor, memory and disks, see our hardware.

How players reach your server

Players don't connect to our home directly. They connect to a server we rent from OVH in its Beauharnois, Quebec data center. That server has OVH's always-on, network-level DDoS protection, which filters large floods of junk traffic before they reach us. No DDoS protection stops everything: attack traffic that looks like normal player traffic can still get through.

From the OVH server, the traffic travels to our site over an encrypted WireGuard tunnel. Our home address is never the address your players connect to.

Internet at our site

The site has two internet connections: a main wired line, and a 5G cellular line. If the main line drops, the tunnel switches to the 5G line automatically.

Backups

Every server is backed up automatically every day with restic. The backups are stored on the separate storage server described above, and you can restore them from the panel.

An off-site copy is being set up. Until it is, all backups are at the same site as the servers.

Who runs it

MineXHost was founded in November 2025, and we are still building it. The service is live in Early Access, so expect maintenance and occasional outages. We don't publish an uptime figure; the status page shows what is up right now.

Our monitoring is automated and runs 24/7. Human support does not: live support hours are 5PM to 12AM ET on weekdays, with limited availability on weekends, and ticket replies usually come within 12 hours. See support for details.

What this means for you

  • All game servers run at one site. A power outage, or an internet outage on both lines, takes servers offline until it is fixed. We don't run a second location yet.
  • The OVH server is a single server. If it fails, players can't connect until it is restored.
  • Your world and its backups are at the same site. Backups protect you from mistakes and crashes, not from losing the whole site, until the off-site copy is running.

Why it is still worth it

  • We own the hardware, so we decide what shares a machine with you. We use controlled memory allocation, and we don't use unlimited overselling or uncontrolled node packing.
  • We wrote our own software. MineXEngine detects when your server crashes and restarts it on its own. The panel keeps a rollback timeline: it lists changes such as a modpack install or a Minecraft version change, and lets you restore the backup taken just before one.
  • We publish the measured pass rate of each engine version on real modpacks: see our modpack test results.
