The File Manager lets you browse your server's files in the browser: open and edit config files, upload and download files or whole folders, extract archives, and get back deleted files from the Recycle Bin for 30 days. Open your server, then choose Files & Data and File Manager.
Find your way around
- Click a folder to open it. Use Up or the path at the top to go back. The / at the start of the path is your server's top folder.
- Click Name, Size or Modified to sort, and type in the filter box to narrow the current folder.
- Find config searches the config files in
config, defaultconfigs, your world'sserverconfigfolder andplugins, and lists the ones you edited recently. - Each row has Download, Details, Rename, Permissions and Delete. Archives also get Extract.
Edit a file
- Click the file's name. It opens in the editor.
- Make your change. Press Ctrl+F (or click Find) to search inside the file.
- Click Save, or press Ctrl+S.
- Restart the server if the note above the editor says the change applies at startup.
Config files (such as .toml, .json, .yml, .properties and .cfg) get extra help:
- The editor checks the syntax. A file with an error that would stop it loading can't be saved until you fix it.
- Before saving, Review changes shows exactly what you changed. Click Save to confirm or Keep editing.
- The previous version is backed up first. Click History to see up to 10 earlier versions and Restore one.
- Many configs can be edited as a Form or as Raw text.
- If a mod rewrote the file after you opened it, the panel says This file changed on the server and asks before overwriting.
The browser editor opens files up to 2 MB. For a bigger file, download it, edit it on your computer and upload it again.
What needs a restart
server.propertiesand most mod configs are read when the server starts. Restart after saving. Forserver.properties, the Server Properties page is easier.- Plugin configs: use the plugin's own reload command if it has one, otherwise restart.
- Files in
defaultconfigsare only copied into new worlds. To change your current world, edit the matching file in the world'sserverconfigfolder. ops.json,whitelist.jsonandbanned-players.json: while the server runs it can overwrite your edits. Use the in-game commands or Player Manager instead, or stop the server before editing.
Upload files
- Open the folder you want the files in.
- Click Upload and choose one or more files.
- Follow the progress in the Transfers tray. Uploads keep going if you open another page in the panel, and you can Pause and Resume them.
Each file can be up to 16 GB, and it has to fit in your plan's disk space. To create an empty file or folder instead, use New file or New folder.
Download files and folders
- Download on a file saves that file.
- Download on a folder saves the whole folder. In Chrome or Edge on a computer, the panel asks for a folder on your computer and copies the files into it. Other browsers save one
.zip. - Download server, at the top, saves your whole server as one
.zip. It leaves out MineXHost's own engine files, backups and Recycle Bin.
Compress and extract
- To pack files together, tick them, click Compress and name the archive. The result is a
.tar.gzfile in the current folder. - To unpack an archive, click Extract next to it. The contents go into the current folder. Extract works on
.zipand.tar.gzfiles. Other archive types, such as.tar.xz, show the button but fail; convert them to.zipon your computer first. - Archives count toward your disk space while they are on the server.
Delete, and get files back
- Click Delete next to a file or folder, or tick several and click Delete at the top.
- Choose Move to Recycle Bin (you can restore it) or Delete permanently (you can't).
Open the Recycle Bin tab to see deleted items and click Restore to put one back where it was. Items stay for 30 days, then are purged automatically. They still count toward your disk space until then, so use Delete permanently in the Recycle Bin to free space sooner.
Good to know
- The folders MineXHost uses for your backups and the Recycle Bin can't be opened or changed from the File Manager.
- Stop the server before replacing or deleting mod files, world files or anything else the server has open.
- The File Manager is unavailable while the server is suspended or while the machine it runs on is offline.
- Subusers need the Read / download files, Edit / upload files or Delete files permission to do each of these things.
- For worlds, the World Manager is easier. See How to upload or download a world.
