How to whitelist, op, ban and kick players with Player Manager

Last updated

Player Manager lists the players your server knows about and lets you whitelist, op, ban, kick and unban them with a click. It is for Java Edition servers; Bedrock servers don't show it. The server needs to be running, because each button sends the matching command to the server's console.

Open Player Manager

  1. Open your server, then choose World & Players and Player Manager.
  2. The list shows players who are online, on the whitelist, opped, banned or seen recently. The tiles at the top count Online now, Operators, Whitelisted and Banned. Click a tile to show only those players, or search by name or UUID.
  3. Each row has quick buttons: Kick (for players who are online), OP or De-OP, Ban or Unban, and Manage, which opens the player.

What the Actions tab does

Click Manage on a player, then open the Actions tab:

  • Add to whitelist and Remove from whitelist.
  • Grant OP and Revoke OP. The panel asks you to confirm before granting OP, because an operator can run any console command, op or de-op others and stop the server. Only op people you trust.
  • Ban, Unban and Kick. You can type an optional reason first. A kicked player can rejoin; a banned player can't until you unban them.
  • The Gamemode and Apply effect sections change that player's game mode or give them a status effect.

Whitelist someone who hasn't joined yet

Player Manager only lists players the server already knows about, and it has no box for adding a new name. To add a new player, type this in the console on the Cockpit page, using their exact Minecraft name:

whitelist add Steve

The whitelist only keeps people out while it is turned on. Turn it on with whitelist on, or set Whitelist on the Server Properties page and restart. See How to use the server console.

Ban by name, not by IP

Players reach your server through MineXHost's edge network, so many players can show the same IP address, and an IP ban can block everyone. Ban players by name with the Ban button or the ban command. See Why every player shows the same IP address.

Good to know

  • Ban and kick reasons can use plain letters, numbers and punctuation only, with no emoji or accented letters, because Minecraft commands can't carry them.
  • If you see "Some player data is temporarily unavailable", some whitelist, op or ban flags may be missing until the server's machine responds. Try again shortly.
  • Player Allowlist under Network is a different thing. It lets through a player who is blocked by MineXHost's connection protection. It doesn't add anyone to your Minecraft whitelist.
  • Use Export CSV to download the players currently shown.
