How do I export my data or delete my account?

Last updated

Both are on the Security tab of your account. Export My Data downloads a copy of the personal data we hold about you as a JSON file. Delete Account permanently erases your account: your servers are destroyed at once, your subscriptions are cancelled, and only anonymised financial records are kept, because tax law requires them.

Export your data

  1. In your account, open Security and find Export My Data.
  2. Click Export my data.
  3. Enter your password under Confirm your password. If you use two-factor authentication, also enter a current code from your app.
  4. Type EXPORT in Type EXPORT to confirm and click Download my data.

Your browser saves a file named like minexhost-data-export-….json. It contains your profile, servers, orders and subscriptions, support tickets, consent records and security log. It never contains your password, two-factor secret, API keys or payment details, and the file itself lists anything left out and why. The file holds personal information, so keep it somewhere safe. You can try an export up to 3 times an hour, and tries with a wrong password count.

The export doesn't include your server files. To keep a copy of your worlds, mods and configs, download a backup or your world. See Backups and restore and Upload or download a world.

Before you delete your account

  • Download anything you want to keep. Your servers, their worlds and their backups are destroyed immediately. The 30-day recycle bin doesn't apply to account deletion, so nothing can be restored.
  • Deleting your account doesn't refund anything by itself. If your first hosting plan is still inside the 3-day money-back guarantee, use Cancel and refund first. See Refunds and the 3-day money-back guarantee.
  • Only want to stop paying? Cancel the subscription instead. Your server keeps running until the end of the period you've paid for, and your account stays. See Cancel your subscription.

Delete your account

  1. On the Security tab, find Delete Account and click Delete my account.
  2. Enter your password, and a current code from your app if you use two-factor authentication.
  3. Type DELETE in Type DELETE to confirm and click Permanently delete.

You're signed out straight away. This cannot be undone.

What deletion removes, and what we keep

Deleting your account:

  • destroys all your servers, their storage and their backups;
  • cancels your subscriptions, including any paid through Stripe's checkout page, so you aren't charged again;
  • deletes your saved cards, two-factor settings, SSH keys, subdomains, sessions and notifications, and removes your access to other people's servers;
  • unlinks your Discord account, if you linked one;
  • replaces your email address and username with anonymous placeholders, and removes your IP address, username and device details from your entries in our security log.

We keep invoices and other financial records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, in a form no longer linked to your identity. Security log entries are kept as anonymous records of what happened and when, and are deleted 2 years after they were made. If you ever approved a change to your modpack, the record of that approval is kept for 7 years after the server is deleted, because it is evidence of an instruction you gave us. The full details are in sections 6 and 7 of our Privacy Policy.

Other ways to make a request

You can also ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or erasure by emailing [email protected]. We answer requests within one month and may ask you to confirm your identity first.

Both actions ask you to confirm with your password. After 10 tries in an hour without a correct one, they are refused for the rest of that hour. See Two-factor authentication for how that limit works.
