You can cancel your subscription from Plan & Billing at any time. Your server keeps running until the end of the period you've paid for, then it is suspended. Nothing is deleted on the day it cancels, and you can change your mind until the period ends.
Cancel your subscription
- On your server's page, click Plan & Billing and stay on the Overview tab.
- In the Cancel subscription section, press Cancel subscription.
- Read the confirmation. It gives the date your server runs until, and says "No further payments are taken. You will not be refunded for the period you are already inside."
- Press Cancel subscription to confirm. The panel shows "Subscription will cancel at the period end." and the status changes to Cancelling.
Pressing Turn off on the Auto-renewal card does the same thing: the server runs until the period ends and is then suspended.
What happens at the end of the period
- Your server is stopped and suspended, and the subscription shows as Ended.
- If you have a dedicated IP, it is released at the same time.
- We email you to say the server has been suspended. The email confirms that your data is safe and nothing has been deleted.
Suspension doesn't delete anything. A suspended server's world, files and backups are kept until the server is reactivated or removed. Our Terms of Service say that a removed server is held in a recycle bin for 30 days before it is destroyed for good. If you want your own copy of your files, download a backup before the period ends.
Change your mind
Before the period ends, press Resume subscription on the same page. This undoes the cancellation, and the subscription renews as normal.
Start a suspended server again
After the period has ended, open the Billing page, find the server and press Start subscription. Use this rather than ordering a new server. See Reactivate a suspended server.
Cancelling in your first 72 hours
If this is your first hosting plan and your server was set up less than 72 hours ago, you may see Cancel and refund under the cancel button. Good to know
- Cancelling doesn't refund the period you are already in.
- Paying for more time with Pay ahead on the Overview tab undoes a pending cancellation, and the subscription renews automatically again.
- A failed renewal payment is different from cancelling. The server keeps running for a 3-day grace period, and the Overview tab shows Pay now. If the payment isn't made, the server is then suspended.
