The console shows your server's live output and sends commands to it, the same commands an operator types in game. It is on the Cockpit page, the first page you see when you open a server.
Send a command
- Open your server. The console is on the Cockpit page.
- Make sure the server is running. Commands only do something while it is online.
- Click the box that says Type a command….
- Type the command, for example
say Hello, and press Enter.
Console commands don't need the leading slash you type in game chat. If you type one anyway, the console removes it before sending, so /op Steve and op Steve do the same thing. Press the up and down arrow keys in the box to bring back commands you sent earlier.
Common commands (Java Edition)
op Steve: makes Steve an operator. Operators can run any command, including stopping the server, so only op people you trust.deop Steveremoves it.whitelist on: only players on the whitelist can join.whitelist offturns it off.whitelist add Steveandwhitelist remove Steve: add or remove a player.ban Steveandpardon Steve: ban or unban a player by name.list: shows who is online.save-all: saves the world to disk now.
Replace Steve with the player's exact Minecraft name. Mods and plugins can add their own commands. Bedrock servers use some different commands; for example, Bedrock uses allowlist where Java uses whitelist.
Don't ban by IP address
Players reach your server through MineXHost's edge network, so the address your server logs for a player can be the edge's address, shared by every player. Running ban-ip on that address blocks everyone, including you. The console shows a reminder while you type ban-ip. Ban by name instead. See Why every player shows the same IP address.
Console tools
- Search scrollback…: finds text in the output.
- Raw, Normal and Strict: choose how much startup noise you see. Raw shows everything. Normal hides known startup noise but always keeps warnings and errors. Strict shows only start and stop, player and admin messages, plus all warnings and errors. This only changes your view, not what the server writes.
- Copy: copies all output.
- The download icon (its tooltip reads Download log file): saves the output to your computer.
- Share: uploads the output to mclo.gs and copies the link. Player IP addresses are masked before upload.
- History: lists commands sent to this server, with who sent them and when.
- Clear: clears the console in your browser. It stays cleared when you reload the page, and it doesn't delete your server's log files.
There is also a console filter under Configure, then Settings, that changes what the server itself prints. See Server timezone and console filter.
If the console won't connect
- Too many consoles: you have the console open in too many tabs or windows. Close one, then reload the page.
- Session expired: reload the page and sign in again.
- Host offline: the panel can't reach the machine your server runs on. It keeps retrying. If it lasts, check status.minexhost.com.
- Suspended: the console is unavailable until the suspension is lifted. See Reactivate a suspended server.
- If you are a subuser and see No console access on this server, ask the server owner to give you the View console & send commands permission.
If you open a ticket about something in the console, click Share and paste the mclo.gs link into the ticket. Tickets don't take file attachments.
