Your server can post to a channel in your own Discord when it starts, stops, crashes or finishes a backup, and when a player joins or leaves. Create a webhook in the Discord channel, paste it into Tools, then Discord Alerts, and tick the events you want. No plugin is needed, so it works on every loader and on Bedrock.
1. Create a webhook in Discord
- In Discord, open the settings of the channel that should receive the alerts. You need permission to manage webhooks on that server.
- Choose Integrations, then Webhooks, then New Webhook.
- Choose Copy Webhook URL.
Treat the webhook URL like a password: anyone who has it can post in that channel.
2. Turn on alerts in the panel
- Open your server and choose Tools, then Discord Alerts.
- Paste the URL into Discord webhook URL.
- Under Post when, tick the events you want. Server started, Server stopped and Server crashed are ticked to begin with.
- Leave Alerts on ticked and press Save.
- Press Send test message. "Sent. Check the channel." means Discord accepted it.
Once saved, the page shows Posting to with a shortened form of the webhook. The full URL is never shown again. To change channel, paste a new URL and save. Leave the box empty to keep the saved one.
The events
| Event | When it posts |
|---|---|
| Server started | The server finished starting and is online. |
| Server stopped | The server went offline after running. |
| Server crashed | The server stopped unexpectedly. |
| Backup finished | A backup completed or failed. |
| Player joined | A player joined. Their name is posted. |
| Player left | A player left. Their name is posted. |
Join and leave alerts work on Java Edition. On Bedrock, most gamertags don't pass the Minecraft username check, so usually nothing is posted for them.
Alerts never include chat messages. To bridge in-game chat with Discord on a plugin server, install DiscordSRV from the Recommended add-ons card.
Limits that keep your channel readable
- At most 12 messages a minute are sent. Extra alerts in a burst are counted, not sent, and the page shows how many were skipped.
- If the server is stuck crashing and restarting, you get at most one crash message and one recovery message every 10 minutes.
Change, pause or remove alerts
- Untick Alerts on and press Save to pause without losing the webhook.
- Press Remove to delete the saved webhook. Nothing more is posted to that channel.
- If you delete the webhook in Discord, the panel turns alerts off and says why. Paste a new webhook URL to turn them back on.
Only the server owner can change Discord alerts. Subusers who can view the server's settings see them read-only.
If the test fails
- "Discord says this webhook no longer exists." The webhook was deleted or its URL is wrong. Create a new one and paste it.
- "Paste a Discord webhook URL" when saving: the address isn't a Discord webhook. Copy it again with Copy Webhook URL.
- "Could not reach Discord." Discord may be having trouble. Try again in a few minutes.
