You can move to a bigger or smaller plan, or change your storage, from Plan & Billing at any time. An upgrade charges the prorated difference straight away. A downgrade charges nothing today and lowers your next payment. Either way, you reboot your server to apply the change.
The plans
| Plan | RAM | CPU |
|---|---|---|
| Axolotl | 3 GB | Up to 2 cores burst CPU |
| Cat | 4 GB | Up to 2 cores burst CPU |
| Wolf | 6 GB | Up to 3 cores burst CPU |
| Bee | 8 GB | Up to 4 cores burst CPU |
| Panda | 10 GB | Up to 4 cores burst CPU |
| Fox | 12 GB | Up to 5 cores burst CPU |
| Iron Golem | 16 GB | Up to 6 cores burst CPU |
| Sniffer | 20 GB | Up to 8 cores burst CPU |
Every plan includes 40 GB of NVMe storage. The plans page always has the current prices, and the panel shows the exact amount before you confirm any change.
Change your plan
- On your server's page, click Plan & Billing.
- Open the Change plan tab and click the plan you want. Your current plan is marked Current plan.
- Press Upgrade to and the plan name for a bigger plan, or Switch to and the plan name for a smaller one.
- Read the confirmation. It shows your new monthly price and either the amount charged now for the rest of this billing period, or "Nothing is charged today." It also says "Your renewal date does not move."
- Confirm. The panel shows that you switched plan and asks you to reboot to apply it.
- Restart your server. The new RAM and CPU take effect only after a reboot, and nothing restarts automatically.
If the page shows This change can't be applied right now, the reason is shown with it. If the machine your server runs on has no room for a bigger plan, you see The plan change was refused after you confirm. Nothing is charged in either case. Open a ticket if that happens.
How the charge is worked out
An upgrade charges the difference in monthly price, multiplied by the days left in your billing period, divided by 30. It is charged straight away to your saved payment method, plus any tax that applies. For example, a plan that costs $6 more per month, with 15 days left, costs $6 × 15 ÷ 30 = $3.00 now. A downgrade charges nothing; your next payment is at the lower price.
Change your storage
Storage comes in four sizes: 40 GB (included with every plan), 80 GB, 130 GB and 200 GB. The extra monthly cost of each size is shown in the panel before you confirm.
- Open the Add-ons tab under Plan & Billing.
- Under Extra storage, choose the size you want and press Save add-ons.
- In the Apply these add-ons? window, check the price and press Apply changes.
- Restart your server when the panel asks. The new disk size usually applies straight away, and the restart makes sure the server is using it.
Before you choose a smaller size, free up space so your server, backups included, uses well under the new size. The panel doesn't stop you choosing a size below what you use now, and a server over its limit is stopped and its oldest backups can be removed (see When your disk fills up below). Backups count toward your disk.
When your disk fills up
We email you and show a notice in the panel as your disk passes 75%, 85% and 90% of your plan. At 85% the oldest backups are pruned, and at 90% new backups pause. At 95% the server is stopped safely; nothing is deleted. Upgrade your storage and the server is restarted for you, or free up space in the File Manager and start it again.
Good to know
- Changing plan doesn't change your disk, because every plan has the same 40 GB.
- Before moving to a smaller plan, check it has enough RAM for your modpack. See Memory and Estimated RAM.
- A Dedicated IP is changed on the same Add-ons tab. See The Dedicated IP add-on.
