You can choose a modpack from CurseForge or Modrinth when you order your server, or install one later from Software then Modpack Installer on your server's page. MineXEngine installs the pack and works out its mod loader for you.
Choose a modpack when you order
- At checkout, under What you'll play, choose A modpack, then press Browse modpacks.
- Search in the Choose a modpack window. The list starts filtered to packs that fit your plan, and the box at the top says so, for example Showing only packs that fit your Wolf plan (6 GB). Untick it to see every pack. A pack that needs more RAM than your plan is then marked, not blocked.
- If the filtered list is empty, press Show all packs, or go back and choose a bigger plan.
- Pick a pack. It installs the newest release unless you press Choose a version and pick another one. Latest version (recommended) is the default.
- If we know a pack has a problem, a note headed Known problem with this pack explains it. To keep that pack, tick I've read this and I still want this pack on my server. Otherwise pick another pack or switch back to vanilla.
- Press Done and finish checkout. Your server's page shows Your modpack is queued until the install starts, then a progress bar.
If the install fails, your server's page shows We couldn't install your modpack. Press Retry install to try again. You are not locked in: you can change the pack, or switch to vanilla, from your server's page later.
Install a modpack on an existing server
- Open your server, then choose Software and Modpack Installer.
- Leave Take a checkpoint first ticked. It backs the server up before the install. If that backup fails, nothing is installed.
- Search for a pack. Narrow the list with the Provider, Version and Sort filters. Each result carries a confidence reading from our testing. No reading means we have no data on that pack yet, not that it is a bad choice.
- Click Install. In the Select version window, choose from Select Platform, Select Game Version and Select Version.
- Under Data Management, decide whether to wipe. Both wipe options are off by default.
- If the server is running, tick I understand my server is running. MineXEngine stops the server safely, installs the pack and starts the server again.
- Click Install modpack.
If search doesn't find the pack, open Install by ID or slug instead. Choose the source, paste the project ID or slug from the pack's CurseForge or Modrinth page, and press Install pack. This also replaces the current mod set.
What happens to your world and files
- With no wipe ticked, your world and other files are kept. Only the mod files the old pack shipped are removed. Mods you added yourself stay.
- Wipe Server Data deletes all server files before installing.
- Zip and Wipe Data backs everything up to a zip first, then wipes.
- The checkpoint is a locked backup. To go back to it, see Roll your server back to before a change.
How long it takes
The progress bar moves through Files ready, Copying, Installing, Starting and Ready. Large packs can take several minutes. If the badge reads Taking a while, give it more time. If it reads Needs a look, check the console on your server's page and see My modpack won't start.
Use your own modpack files
There is no installer for a custom modpack zip. You can add files with Upload in the File Manager and unpack a .zip or .tar archive with its Extract button. To move a whole server in from another host, use Tools then Server Importer. Importing replaces this server's data permanently, so back up anything you want to keep first.
Good to know
- Modpacks come from CurseForge and Modrinth.
- You can run up to 20 modpack installs per hour on a server.
- Modpacks are for Java Edition only. Bedrock can't load Java mods.
- To change the Minecraft version or server software instead of the pack, see Change your Minecraft version.
